I sure hope it's not too late!

I've actually been trying to start a campaign to help preserve GeoCities, whether by finding someone to archive it completely or by convincing Yahoo! not to delete it. So far, almost everyone has laughed in my face and tried to convince me to give up.

I think maybe if people banded together instead of laughing at what they call "a lost cause", maybe we could actually achieve something. :[

Agreed, but people never seem to care to preserve a medium until is too late. It happened with cinema, radio, TV and even Art Deco buildings.

As the saying goes:
"You don't know what you got till it's gone"

It's really sad. :[ I think a lot of it is due to the fact that the world is run on greed, and the need for something newer and better.

I wish Yahoo had not gotten rid of geocities.
My late boyfriend had a page there with the only known copy of a song he wrote. It didnt get archived here (i didnt even know it was closing until it was gone) and yahoo refuses to answer any questions I have regarding backup files or archived data.
They tell me to have the site's owner contact them. I tell them he's sort of dissipated in a small wooden box right now. They tell me 'thats nice, make sure he gets ahold of us'.

I hate big internet companies. They never listen to their customers. :(
